Special Education programs and services at Brooklyn Excelsior Charter School are offered as an extension of the CSE (Committee on Special Education) processes governed by community district Brooklyn 16.
Like other K-8 programs in the district, Brooklyn Excelsior Charter School provides a program and service model on its campus that best addresses the needs of students who are able to spend the majority of their time in the general education classroom with support from special education service providers. Students are provided with support by special education teachers both in general and special education classrooms.
In addition, speech, occupational therapy, physical therapy, and other related services are provided to students with special education needs on the school campus. For students who are served through an 8-1-1 or 6-1-1 program model, the Brooklyn Excelsior Charter School will coordinate services with the student's district of residence. Also, if the needs of a student with a 15-1 or 12-1 program model cannot be addressed in the least restrictive environment at Brooklyn Excelsior Charter School, Brooklyn Excelsior Charter School is required to seek these programs and services on behalf of the student from the school district in which they are located.
