Middle school is full of transition – emotional, physical, social, and academic. This is often a highly stressful time for both students and their parents. At Brooklyn Excelsior Charter School, we work closely with students and their families to try to ease some of the transitional issues that arise.
What are the goals for middle school?
Upon entering middle school, students need to start thinking about high school. In New York City, students apply to high school in the fall of their 8th grade year.
High school placement
Does the school help 8th grades families get placed into good high schools?
The guidance counselor assists students and their families in navigating the high school admissions process. Beginning in 7th grade, the counselor meets with students in small groups and/or teaches class lessons about important items such as developing interests and goals, researching high schools, making high school program choices, and understanding how high schools choose students for the programs offered in the individual schools.
