Brooklyn Excelsior Charter School student follow a general dress code. We believe there are a number of benefits to students wearing uniforms including improved behavior and increased security.


Lower School Students, K-5

  • White shirts, with collars (includes mock turtleneck, long or short sleeves, cotton or knit)
  • Brown, black, navy (loafer type or casual dress). Athletic shoes should be brought to school for use in gym. Boots are not permitted except as outerwear.
  • Cold weather attire may include solid color sweaters or vest in navy, white, beige, tan, burgundy, rust or dark green.
  • Hats or bandanas of any kind are not permitted.
  • Extreme hairstyles are not permitted. Hair color for boys and girls must be of natural tones, and may not be professionally colored, dyed or streaked.

Upper School Students, 6th-8th

  • Light Blue (powder blue) shirts with collars (includes mock turtleneck, long or short sleeves, cotton or knit)
    Black shoes (loafer type or casual dress).
  • Athletic shoes should be brought to school for use in gym. Boots are not permitted except as outerwear.

Boys

  • Navy or dark blue pants; belts must be worn with trousers having belt loops. Shirts must stay tucked in pants.
  • White or navy socks.
  • Hairstyles must be conservative with hair being off the collar.
  • Earrings and other body piercing ornaments are not permitted.

Girls

  • Navy or dark blue pants, skirts, skorts, jumpers,; must be longer than the fingers when arms hang at the student’s side or no more that three inches above the knee.
  • White of navy socks/tights.
  • A reasonable number of earrings are permitted. Only ears may be pierced.
  • Makeup is not permitted.
